Having trouble with Google Calendar synchronization? If events show up in the Google app but are missing in aCalendar, it is usually due to Android settings or app permissions. Here is how to fix it.

1

Check Selected Profiles

Wrong profile selected?

Please make sure that this is not your issue: Events from one or more calendars missing (wrong profile selected).

2

Google App Settings & Baseline Check

Note: The Google Calendar app does not necessarily use the Android calendar storage for its own data. This is why events can be visible there even though they have not yet been passed on to aCalendar.

Privacy Feature: Google has introduced a new option where sharing calendar data with the Android system must be explicitly allowed.

Open the Google Calendar app → Go to Menu ☰SettingsGeneral → Enable the option "Share Google Calendar data with other apps". Only after doing this can aCalendar access and display your events.

Update Google Calendar App

Make sure that the latest version of the official Google Calendar app is installed on your device from the Google Play Store. Older sync adapters that are hardcoded into the Android system are often buggy and no longer updated.

3

Background Data & Battery Optimization

Does synchronization only work when you actively open the Google Calendar app? This is a clear sign that Android is blocking the app in the background.

1

Open App Info

Long-press the Google Calendar app icon on your home screen and select App Info (i-symbol).

2

Disable Battery Optimization

Look for battery options and set them to Not optimized or Unrestricted for Google Calendar.

3

Allow Background Data

Check under "Data usage" whether Background data is enabled for the app. (Names might vary slightly depending on your smartphone manufacturer).

4

Check Android System Settings

If the sync still fails despite active background data, please verify your phone's system-wide account settings:

Account Synchronization

Go to Android Device Settings → Passwords & Accounts → [Your Google Account] → Account Sync. Make sure the toggle next to Calendar is turned on.

Global Sync & Power Saving

Check if automatic data synchronization is globally enabled in Android, and ensure that no aggressive power-saving mode is blocking background processes.

5

Only past / future events missing

Google Sync Limitations

By default, Google Calendar synchronization only downloads events within a limited time window around the current year to your phone. If older or far-future occurrences are missing, please check how to extend your sync timeframe here using aCalendar's built-in options.

Additional Notes

File Attachments

The sync of Google Drive attachments is not supported natively by Android (the Android calendar system knows no file attachments), but this is offered by aCalendar itself and can be activated per calendar in the calendar list.
