Samsung devices run a customized version of Android called One UI. This system includes strict power-saving modes and unique system updates that can cause widgets to freeze, stop background synchronization, or even move events to a hidden trash bin. Here is how to fix these common issues.

1

Widget & Sync Issues (Battery Optimization)

If your calendar widgets stop refreshing automatically, or if new events do not sync until you manually open the app, Samsung's power management is putting aCalendar into background sleep mode. You can easily prevent this with two settings:

Disable App Sleep Restrictions

Open your device SettingsDevice care (or Battery and device care) → BatteryBackground usage limits. Make sure aCalendar is not listed under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps. For the best performance, add aCalendar to Never sleeping apps.

Set Battery Usage to Unrestricted

Alternatively, open the App Info screen for aCalendar. Tap on Battery and change the core configuration from Optimized to Unrestricted.

Events Disappeared After a Samsung Firmware Update

If your appointments suddenly disappear right after installing a Samsung system update, do not panic. The update process occasionally triggers a bug that falsely sends local database entries to the system trash bin:

How to restore them: To recover your data, you must use the pre-installed factory Samsung Calendar app (do not open aCalendar or the Google Calendar app for this step). Open the Samsung Calendar app, expand its side menu, and select Trash. Find your missing events in the list and choose the option to restore them. Once recovered, they will automatically reappear inside aCalendar within a few moments.
